Henry Hinde Junior School : Warwickshire School Admissions and Appeals

If you live in Warwickshire and your child is due to transfer to Junior School in September 2017, parents are encouraged to apply for places online ( ). Alternatively you may telephone the Admission Services Department, on 01926 742037 or 01926 742047 – email ( ) for further information. Seventy places are available in each year group. Parents have a right of appeal to the Local Education Authority if their child is not allocated a place at the school of their choice. The procedure for making an appeal is outlined in the County Council’s booklet.

Curriculum Provision

At Henry Hinde Junior School,  we are consistently developing the curriculum that we provide for our children. Our learners are involved in the planning of their topics, we then involve the community in the reviewing of our topics to ensure that we provide our learners with exciting, stimulating topics which the children become fully absorbed in using a cross-curricular approach.  We strive to encompass as many curriculum subjects into each topic, making them relevant and meaningful for our children.

Reading is at the heart of all we do at Henry Hinde Junior School. We currently use Oxford reading books, which are levelled for each child using assessment and teacher judgments. The reading scheme is just one of many reading opportunities in school including; formal reading skill lessons, library books and Read Write Inc phonic sessions for those children who need to develop this skill. All are designed to challenge and encourage a lifelong passion for reading. Children are encouraged to read at home regularly too and this can be recorded in their Reading diary.

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of eligible pupils, and close the gap between them and their peers.

Pupil premium funding is available to both mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units.

In the 2017 to 2018 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

  • £1,300 for primary-aged pupils;
  • £935 for secondary-aged pupils.

Schools will also receive £1,900 for each looked-after pupil who:

  • has been looked after for 1 day or more;
  • was adopted from care on or after 30 December 2005, or left care under:
  • a special guardianship order;
  • a residence order.

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. However, schools are to be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support eligible pupils. Pupil Voice

The School Council at Henry Hinde Junior School consists of two pupils from each class across the school. The Year 6 representatives stood as candidates to be voted as Head Boy and Head Girl. After they were elected, each gave fantastic persuasive speeches. The whole school voted and had their say. The School Council meets every few weeks, to bring together ideas for improving our school. They represent our school at events, such as collecting for the Food Bank at Christmas time.



Our agreed Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy describes in detail the provision made for children with special educational needs at Henry Hinde. This includes provision for “Able” children.

At Henry Hinde we aim to identify children with special educational needs, whether learning, physical, emotional or behavioural and make provision for these by:

  • Differentiating the curriculum
  • Varying teaching styles and methods
  • Providing suitable materials for the full range of academic abilities
  • Providing Learning Support Assistant support
  • The use of outside agencies which include Educational Psychologists and advisory teachers.
  • Teachers and Health and Social Services

Educational Visits 

Educational visits/Extended Educational Visits (Residential Visits)

Currently children enjoy the opportunity to participate in two Extended Educational visits (residential). Year 5 children have the opportunity to participate in a visit to Beaumanor Hall and children in Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a visit to Marle Hall. For children unable or unwilling to participate in Extended Educational visits parallel education opportunities are arranged in school.

In addition, teachers may organise day educational visits for their class or year groups. These visits are an integral part of the work being undertaken by the children, allowing them to extend their experiences beyond the classroom. For these visits to proceed it is usually necessary to ask for parents to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the activity.

For Health and Safety reasons we do not permit the wearing of any form of jewellery in a school other than a small pair of stud earrings and a named watch.

Extra curricular activities

The school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities during lunchtimes and after school. The range of activities may vary according to the time of the year and the staffing of the school. In addition, we may offer activities through the employment of specialist trainers or coaches.

Activities in the academic year 2018-2019 include home learning club, netball, football, cross country, athletics, hockey, recorders, choir, computer club, technology club, newspaper club, film club, handwriting group, art club. It is the responsibility of parents to make appropriate arrangements for their child if the extra curricular activity ends after the finish of the normal school day.
