Trustees Needed for the NET Academies Board of Directors

NET Academies Trust is currently seeking new Trustees to sit on our Board of Directors.

NET Academies Trust is the multi-academy trust set up by the National Education Trust (NET). We sponsor selected schools to develop their role and to offer something special to the children and young people in their communities. Building on the extensive school improvement services offered by the National Education Trust, NET Academies has the tools to bring about positive improvements in education for children throughout their school years.

The establishment of the NET, already a highly regarded educational organisation, as a sponsor of academies, was a carefully considered move by its Trustees. NET’s investment in the academy model brings with it a defined set of values as well as considerable expertise and experience of successful school improvement. The Board of Directors for the NET Academies Trust is able to build upon some powerful foundations.

NET Academies Trust places a strong emphasis on the role of Trustees in achieving educational excellence in the Academies. The Trustee role brings informed support and internal challenge to the work of the Board in this area. New trustees will become familiar with the particular responsibilities of the sponsor and matters for compliance, and develop an appreciation of how business in this area is managed by officers. Trustees are encouraged to apply their skill set, experience and understanding of best practice to advise the Board of how to develop improved governance in their particular area of responsibility. They will also become familiar with any elements of risk associated with the brief and maintain an overview of the effectiveness of sponsor measures in place to reduce them. An informed view of national developments, sponsor plans for improvement, current systems and internal or external monitoring checks is used to develop and sharpen the response of the Board collectively.

Our Trustees come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience, but all share a common interest in wanting the best possible education for the children in our Academies. The Board and its committees meet at least quarterly either in the Trust’s Buckinghamshire offices or in London.

The role of a Trustee is both rewarding and developmental, presenting the opportunity to use existing professional and intellectual skills in a new setting, whilst also having the chance to interact with people from other professional backgrounds and to learn from and with them. New Trustees will receive a full induction and training as necessary.
