Battle Primary Academy



Hello and Welcome to the Governors’ section of our website.  Here is a short summary of the work we do at Battle Primary  Academy.  We work closely with our sponsor, NET Academies Trust, and a representative is a Governor. The Trust and Governors were delighted to appoint Joanne Gray as Interim Principle of the Academy on 21st November 2016.

Our main role is to support the Principal and staff – the phrase often used to describe this role is ‘critical friend’.  We help them set and reach targets and to strive for excellence in the whole spectrum of academy life.  The two key documents used are the Academy Development Plan (ADP) and the NET Record of Achievement.  The ADP sets out the strategic plan for the Academy with yearly targets towards which everyone works and the Record of Achievement evaluates how well the Academy is performing and where we need to make improvements.

Our legal duties include:

  • Setting the strategic direction, policies and objectives
  • Setting the annual budget
  • Reviewing and monitoring progress against the Academy budget and objectives
  • Monitoring and evaluating academic progress of the pupils
  • Challenging and supporting the Principal

The Governing Body meets 8 to 10 times a year and the composition is stated in the Instrument of Government.  There are Lead Governors for Finance, Premises including Health & Safety, Human Resources, Safeguarding, External Relations, and Teaching & Learning.  All Governors carry equal status and both the Staff and Parent Governors are elected by the staff and parents respectively.
